Manitoba Lt.-Gov. Anita Neville presented Selkirk Mayor Larry Johannson with the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg April 9.

“I couldn’t be more honoured. ,” Johannson said. “I couldn’t be more proud.”

Johannson, who was first elected mayor of Selkirk in 2010, said it was a complete surprise when MLA for Rossmere Tracy Schmidt nominated him.

“I just couldn’t be prouder,” said Johannson. “To be a proud Manitoban…born and bread and I’ll be here until they have to carry me out feet first and they’ll do it with a medal on my chest.”

Johannson told the St. Paul Press & Springfield Times that even though he received the medal he wished all 11,000 Selkirk residents could have received the honours as well.

“I really feel that there are a lot of people that are around me and with me as a team,” the mayor added. “I really feel I am accepting it on behalf of all Selkirkians.”
